What advice would you give to a teen for future job?

I like alot of things such as writing and photography and fashion design but i'd say i'm not an expert and that i'd never succeed in these or get them i haven't had much experience but what advice would you give when choosing i'm also going to do a course at college on jewelery or digital photography what would you pick and why? What advice would you give to a teen for future job?
Take any courses you can that are heavy on writing papers. Get to where writing an essay is no big deal. Having proper grammar and vocabulary come naturally to you will be really important in any of those fields.

That may sound crazy - why does a photographer or a fashion designer need to be able to write? Because you have to be able to caption your photographs or describe your design. You will need to be able to sell your product. What advice would you give to a teen for future job?

VioletWhat is the best advice you can give to a teen using illegal drugs?
Hey.. I guess to be completely honest it's really hard to say anything to a teen using drugs... I guess it's really the age. I was fifteen when I started smoking weed and doing coke and ectasy and acid... Oh and drniking of course and smoking cigarettes....I tried talking to my mom because in the beginning I was just curious but I noticed it was turning into a habit and when my mother started calling me names and calling me a drug addict and throwing everything I trusted her with in my face I got worse.. All I can say to you is to let them know that you love them and remind them of all the good memories you had with them when they were born. Just remind him/her how important they are to you and they can trust you..At one point I thought my life was already so messed up I couldn't mess it up anymore.. I was afraid I dug myself so deep that drugs and drinking were my life... I turned into a blackout drunk and I got into xanax and I passed out at some places not remembering anything the next day. I surrounded myself with bad friends who were also the main reason I did wut I did because I wanted to belong... I ended up getting suicidal because from all that it turned into a depression.. I felt like I was never gonna get better... I thought I was dying and I estimated my life to end at thirty from some disease or from hurting myself. I felt worthless... But one day I woke up... I saw my family and saw how I was hurting my dad... The one who stuck by me thru everything and I was just watching him wither away...I decided it was time for me to get rid of those friends because they were my greatest influence and when I didn't have money they'd be right there helping me out because they needed someone to go down with them... Finally I met my current boyfriend and he was my fresh start.. He never used drugs and yes he drank but socially. I decided I wanted to get a job.My parents were finally proud of me... Trusted me.. And that meant everything to me. I had officially quit my crazy lifestyle... But I knew it was super official the day I found out I was going to have a baby... I felt like my life was finally falling into place... That was my new reason for living and stop being selfish to myself and my family... But i'll be completely honest if I hadn't gotten rid of those friends right now I'd be dead from a car accident because when your messed up you don't realize the result of the bad descisions you make like driving... And if not that I'm pretty sure I would have died from an incurable std or overdosing... I was extremely promiscuous at that time in my life but I did stop when I met my boyfrind... But when I went to the doctors and had all my tests done everything came back fantastic and I knew that everything from that point on had completely changed.. That God had blessed me with so much that I had taken for granted and from that point on I had a new greater apprectiation for life... And I would never go back.. Ever... Tell them there's hope and that you'll be there no matter what..But don't go overboard where they can't breathe lol...I think a part of the problem is also that the parent might not be strict either though.. If things get out of hand and nothing works unfortunately tough love is the hardest to do but probably the other best way to go... The idea of losing everyone that loved you and never judged you are gone is the hardest thing to cope with... But theres not always a positive result with everything...Have a lot of faith... If the drugs takes over know that deep down that's your baby and they need help, support, attention, sometimes maybe not as much... But don't makes thing easy for them either... I had friends whos parents gave them evrything and with that money was the way we got everthing we needed to get messed up every night... I would say rehab but for some people it could be a phase... If addiction is a problem in your family then drugs and alcohol will be a problem with your child unless you do something now.. I know I wrote so much but I hope with my story you can get an idea or somehing out of it but there's no best advice.. It's whatever works for your child..You can do it and I'm sure your child will get through it.. Oh and by the way rehab works for some.. If it gets to that point suggest a rehab but not a regular detox where they just ween you off the drug go full force at least three months plus...Well alright I'm going to stop before it turns into a novel but good luck and God Bless...

Sorry it's so long...What is the best advice you can give to a teen using illegal drugs?
Start planning the funeral, sorry harsh but true.
thy r expensive u get free ones from me

or

hey look these drugs r making u look 10 years younger
If you want a shorter more painful life then go right ahead but if you want a longer nicer life than stay away.
First, stop.

Second, find your dad, have him get a paddle and then bend over his knee and then tell him the mess you're making of your life.
in my time i've known a number of people including adults that have abused drugs and alcohol. whether it is legal or not, if it is an addiction, someone needs help. sometime they ask for it out-right. other times its not so simple. the best advice for a teen using or abusing drugs or alcohol (just because its legal doesnt mean its always safe) is to know your limit. using in recreation for the time being is one thing. who hasn't used at some point for fun? but if one is sensing that it has become a habit or out of control for themselves or a friend...get help. the earlier the better. its not a joke its a disease. especially when you get into harder drugs than weed and drinking.

best of luck Violet
my best advice would be yes its fun I'm not gonna lie...been there done that....i think as long as it is just pot and nothing else you need to realize what it does to your life it makes you lazy in the end get you *** to school cuz I'm kicking myself now for it...i know to many ppl who lied about drugs and really end up throwing their lives away because of it

if its hard drugs coke,LSD, anything worse i would say get the help you need NOW don't wait don't wait around for some one to find out your doing and get you help...don't hurt your family and friends for drugs! don't make your mom cry if she has to come find you O.D. in your bedroom half alive or not alive at all

my best friends hubby to be was in to heroin and crack he did alot of stupid things hurt his family and friends really bad he was in jail but now he is clean he has a baby and is a very respectable person...no one needs that kinda hurt or past that ppl are gonna remember you for forever he has a hard time getting the job he needs to support a family because of a drug charge he can't even take my friend out of the country for a honey moon because he has a felony
It depends upon whether you are a friend or parent.

if you are a friend, then let the teen's parents know.

if you are the parent, i think that mandatory Narcotics Anonymous meetings might help... these people are serious about quitting drugs, and will let a teen know what it's REALLY all about -- living in gutters, no one there for you, nothing to eat, begging, living in filth, and the list goes on.

making your teen attend these meetings is quite a wake up call. i know, my son was in attendance when he was 17. He is now 31, drug free, never had a relapse and has a great job and family.
they would have been tuaght all this before they entered teens

Tell them that doing drugs to fit in is pretty lame and to make sure that anything the choose to do is because they themself would like to do it. Get help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is a tough one. cus teens see things from many different views. if i was the friend i'd probably let them know that they are changing before your very own eyes and that the change is not for the better and that you want to be friends with them till yall are old in wheel chairs together havin races around the nursing home but if they keep doin what they are doin then how yall would have to take a break from each other cus you dont want to see your friend going down that road. and let them know that you are always there for them but will never give them money or the drug but to talk to if they want to find help you can help them. ask them if they want help quiting if they say yes then go to someone like a parent or school counselor. cus its true you can't help somebody who doesn't want to change for the better.

if you feel like they are so deep into the experimental phase that there is no way for them to recover go directly to their parents though. then it will be their parents problem and they will have to resolve it within the family.

if its not a friend, then maybe try to be friends with them at a standard level of aquaintence and talk to them about what they are tryin to do in life. and ask them if they need help or someone to talk to. let them know you are open to talk to but wont give out money or drug. but that when they are ready you can be there to talk to and help them get help.
Use in moderation and don't get caught.

Advice for a teen on becoming a veterinarian?

hey im a teen and going into high school next year and i was wondering what classes i need to take for being a veterinarian. i can probably qualify for ap classes, so what should i take in ap classes. how many years of school do i need after high school? what is the amount that they usually get paid. i want to work w/ dogs, cats, and little pets. thx for the help!Advice for a teen on becoming a veterinarian?
OK, first things first.

In high school, you want to take a full range of academic courses. Absolutely take four years of English, four of math, and all the major lab sciences (biology, chemistry, physics). But also get some art and music and civics and a good dose of history; psychology is good, and Latin or a romance language doesn't hurt.

You're going to need a four-year bachelor's degree while in college, and then get into veterinary college which takes I think another three years--after which some internship and licensing exams.

What you'll get paid depends on where you practice--small-animal vets in Manhattan earn far more than a small-animal vet in Troy, Ohio--but in all cases, vets with a successful practice make good money. When you're in college, you'll have a career development center on campus that will be able to access projected salary and demand for vets in your state.

Now, the big hurdle is getting into veterinary school in the first place--they're one of the hardest types of graduate school to enter. In order to give yourself the best chances, here's your long-range plan:

1. In college, you plan to either major in (1) pre-med or biology, but use your electives to study as many non-science subjects as you can, or (2) major in anything, but take all of the science and math courses that a pre-med major would be required to take. Veterinary (and medical, and dental) colleges want students who have a solid science background, but they also want well-rounded scholars--if you just take a raft of science courses and avoid anything like literature, philosophy, or sociology, they're likely to turn you away.

And make certain you earn as close to a perfect 4.0 GPA as possible, and in your junior year of college when you take the veterinary school entrance exams, score high on them!

2. Get as much hands-on experience with animals as you can. Volunteering with a local animal shelter is something you can do at your age--they'll ask you to exercise the dogs and clean up a bit--but that alone will likely not be enough. Most veterinary colleges want their students to have large-animal experience as well, so at some point it helps if you work with cattle and goats--I heard of one vet-school applicant who'd gone to Africa and gotten to work with lions, and that was the deciding factor in his admission.

So when you get into college, find out if you can volunteer at a zoo, or on a farm, or an animal preserve. Or see if you can work part-time for a veterinary clinic that does large-animal care.

3. When you're getting your hands-on experience with animals, make it a point to network with the veterinarians. Let them know that you're very interesting in becoming a veterinarian, ask them for their advice (and listen with rapt attention even if they're telling you nothing new). Try to maintain connections to your network of vets all through college--then when you're ready to apply to veterinary school, they can help in two crucial ways: (a) you'll need letters of recommendation, and the best ones come from practicing vets--in particular, ones who graduated from the place you're applying to (b) there often will be an interview, and you can ask your veterinarian contacts what questions you're likely to get and how to answer them well.Advice for a teen on becoming a veterinarian?
Take AP classes and college courses for credit if you're allowed to. Need not be in sciences, just any general core type of class (i.e. history, english, etc, are all good). This accelerates your college path, a definite advantage no matter what field you're going into.

The next thing to do is to volunteer at clinics and other animal welfare areas. Take this seriously as vet schools weigh very heavily on your level of experience in the professional environment. Also, after volunteering for a while you might realize that this field is not really for you. There's a lot of bad sides that may outweigh the good sides in vet medicine, especially at the consumer level. It's important to get personal exposure to these issues to figure it all out yourself.
Both of the previous answers are right on....but don't ignore taking other electives so you can be knowledgable in other subjects, too. For example, most vets own their own business, so take Accounting so that you know what your accountant is doing with your accounts.

And remember, there is more to veterinary work than shots and pills. You will need to do surgery on these animals.

Do you have a local vet that you could job shadow for a day? I always send some of my eighth graders out on a job shadow...they come back even more excited about the job or they come back saying they could never do surgery or put animals down.

Good luck!
You will want to take all the science courses you can fit into your schedule...

Vets get paid very well depending on where they practice and if they are good...some make more then doctors.
As an incoming freshman you usally take Pre AP courses then in junior take start with AP.

You should take:

Pre-AP bio

Pre-AP chem

AP bio

AP chem

If your school offers a HOSA program, get enrolled in it. It's a lot of fun and you learn a lot from it.

Take as many of the medical courses your school offers as well. In my school district, they have a program where if we want Career and Technology classes, we go to a seperate school during the day and take some of those classes. There, we have an Intro to Vet Tech class, maybe your school has something similar.

It seems like you're heading toward the small animal vet (domestic animals). Those usally start off at about 55, 000. Once you gain experience you can go up to the 75, 000 range. Again, it all depends on location, practice and all that.

You need to attend a 4 year college, then a college of vet medicine which is another 4 years (you must graduate with DVM) then you have to do a residency which ranges from state to state. So you're looking at 10+ years of school and training.

You might want to start looking at volunteering at animal shelters. It looks good on your college applications and you get hands on experience in the field you want to go into.

Hope it helps! Good luck!

  • TEENS-IBS got any advice.? plz?

any teens out there who got ibs with any advice on how to deal with school etc...

    im 19 yrs old.

I mean is it possible for u to live a normal life like everyone else. Lets say, if ts Dating, goin out..n just even enjoyin life. I remember how much i was excited about life before i had this condition (6 months already)which were the rest 18 years. Its like im just trying to live with the memories already..cuz this really effects my life..n i just dont look at life the same way. Any of you feel like this? Thanks for your answrs.TEENS-IBS got any advice.? plz?
Uuuuum, I'm not a teen but I can give you really good advice for IBS conditions. I've had it my whole life and have only just managed to finally sort through all the rabble to work out how to feel really good all the time!!!

    1. Intolerances to both gluten and lactose usually go hand in hand with IBS symptoms. To decipher whether you have either/both simply eliminate gluten (the nasty one that causes the huge swollen rock hard tummies) first for a week and take note of your symptoms. Try focusing on plenty of fresh fruit and vegies, lean meats, fish and chicken, nuts and seeds (ground up or they will definitely give you big tummy aches) and loads of pure filtered water. I have found the chlorine, yep that stuff you put in the pool, added by the Government to our tap water to ';purify'; our tap water only further complicates my already irritated and sensitive body. Funny that !! Just go to any major department store and buy yourself a 3 litre water filter jug for about $30.00 AUD and filter all your water through it.

    2. Next, eliminate all your milk and dairy products for a week and take note of your symptoms. If you usually have wet gassiness (sorry I kno that's gross but its the only way to explain it !! lol ) then you are most likely lactose intolerant. By substituting all your milk with a milk substitute such as soy/rice/goats milk you won't be missing out so to speak. I like the soy cos of its nutty flavor. Depends what your preference is, rice milk is very sweet and apparently goats milk is very easy to digest because of the smaller fat globules it has.

Keeping a food diary will also help immensely. by writing the time and food/drink you had and then recording how you felt afterwards, you will be more accurate in pinpointing foods/drinks that upset your system.

You need to ensure that you are getting at least 1300 mg daily of calcium. Calcium is easy peasy to find in food. Foods rich in calcium are:

Salmon, tuna, sardines, spinach collard greens, okra, white beans, baked beans, peas, brussell sprouts, sesame seeds, bok choy and almonds.

Or, simply get a milk substitute that has been fortified with extra calcium and protein.

As far protein goes here's the formula to ensure you get enough on a daily basis, assuming you're lactose intolerant you can't afford to simply cut out whole food groups you have to accomodate and ensure no deficiency occurs in your body.

Multiply 0.79 by your current weight.

the result will be your daily protein requirement in grams.

Example: You weigh 60 kilos and are 33 years old (haha lol, jus an example remember)

    0.79 x 60 = 47 g - your daily protein requirement.

    Oh, o.k. I'll do it!!

    0.79 x 57kilos (???? did I get it right) = 45 grams of protein daily.

Hmmmm, that was silly, now wasn't it !!! Sorry, I'll refocus.......hehehe. Jus trying to make you laugh girl, I know precisely what you've been going through !!

    3. For each and every coffee/tea/soda/soft drink/diet soft drink you have you need to replace it with 12 glasses of water !!! Yep, I nearly fell off my chair too when I found out that one. What happens is that the caffeine tricks our bodies into thinking that we have plenty of water to spare, hence all the peeshing after drinking all these caffeinated drinks. Just avoid them like the plague !! To stay hydrated you need to halve your body weight and have that amount of water in ounces daily. So............. I'm 2,000 pounds (lol haha not telling you) half of that is 1,000 pounds, therefore you'd need to drink 1,000 ounces of water daily (in the land of pretend remember!!) ie: 8 ounces of water = 1 glass. I'm really 148 pounds and I need 10 glasses of water daily simply to stay hydrated.

    4. Get yourself some organic apple cider vinegar and put two tablespoons full into a glass of cold water 1/2 hour before meals and drink up. This will encourage the production of hydrochloric acid in your stomach and aid digestion.

    5. Try to eat loads of salad vegies, ie: spinach, lettuce, kale, okra , with lunch/dinner as they are full of vitamin B6 and B6 is essential for the production of hydrochloric acid !! I certainly wish I'd known this particular tidbit earlier !!

Foods rich in Vitamin B6 are:Meats, whole grains, organ meats, brewer's yeast, blackstrap molasses (treacle tasting natural sweetner usually added to things like gingerbread men), peas, beans and lentils, cantalope, cabbage, unmilled rice, eggs, oats, peanuts and walnuts. If you include some/one of these at each meal you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of all the others.

did you know what else B6 does?? It 's not only essential for the production of hydrochloric acid but is needed to properly absorb B12, it is also needed to produce magnesium (the anti stress mineral) in the body and lastly it is need to produce the mood enhancing neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine in the brain !! You know, the feel good drugs !! (Natural ones of course).

    6. Buy yourself some linseeds and crush about 1 tablespoon full and sprinkle over your salads, vegies on a daily basis. this should keep you regular.

    7. Lastly, for those tummy bloat outs that you just can't get rid of??? Put 1 teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of cold water and mix well. Then drink up. This will realkalise the acid condition of your tummy that is causing the bloating/gassiness/acid reflux. The human body works best at a slightly alkaline level of 7. Honestly, some of the food we put into our bodies like soft drinks have a ph level of about 2.5 !! This means when you have a soda/soft drink you ingesting something that's thousands of times more acid than your body and expecting your body to lap it up and be happy !! ........................... Anyways, now that I've totally ear smashed you, sorry I do tend to ramble on a bit!! I'm just really keen to help you as I truly do know what a painful condition it is !!

    **********EDIT********

Oops, nearly forgot, try not to have large meals in one sitting. Too much for your tummy to cope with at once. Instead, try having say 5 - 6 smaller meals (kiddie size) per day. Oh, you know, jus small !!..............:0)

PEACE %26amp; LIGHT 2 UTEENS-IBS got any advice.? plz?
My mom has this. Best way to deal is to wear some extra protection down there besides underwear, depending on how yours is. That way if you have an accident you won't have to be running to the bathroom necessarily immediately and can be more relaxed about it. My mom has to go all the time sometimes and others is just fine, but protection will help you feel more confident. Try to reduce your stress level if possible. This is what caused hers. If you have the kind w/constipation, try to eat more fiber like in shredded wheat.

Well, I'm not a teen anymore, but I developed IBS when I was 15 and I was diagnosed at 16. Are you on medication? That should help a lot with the symptoms and if it doesn't seem to be working, talk to your doctor because they're are other meds that can work. Being diagnosed and getting some medication was really a relief for me because the year or so that my primary thought it was an infection or the rest of the time when I just put up with it was brutal! I never found that it really negatively impacted my life on the whole. There were times when it was tough but friends understand. Many of them may have it too.TEENS-IBS got any advice.? plz?
I'm in school right now and have to deal with this. One thing that has really helped me I is Gas-X thin strips. They dissolve on your tongue so you don't need to excuse yourself to get water for a pill.
yes it is possible. at school you can get a. allways bathroom pass and use the nurse's bathroom if you want. Dating can still be normal, just go someplace familier that you know what foods they serve and where the bathrooms are. And get someone understanding to date who will be ok with it when/if you tell them. ';Its like im just trying to live with the memories already'; I totally understand that!! but don't worry things will get better for you. There are new meds out there and better was to deal with things. I got really depressed after I got diagnosed with something and m on antidepressants now and i feel back to my old self now. I hope I helped and if you need to talk, i'm here. =]

good luck in life i hope you make it big one dayWhat advice does anyone have for a teen with a dream?
Ignore advice about cutting demos and forget about record deals you are not ready yet. Accept the fact that you might never be ready.

Understand this, becoming a singer and becoming a professional singer are two different things. You have to become a singer first and then, and only then will you be in a position to decide whether becoming a professional singer is realistic possibility or not.

Being a superb singer does not mean you are a commercial proposition. It's no good singing like an angel if no one wants to hear your particular vocal style.

Some people are so naturally talented that they can learn to sing superbly very quickly, the rest of us have to work hard for years to learn to sing well.

As you are still a teen I will assume you have little or no experience.

If you are still with mum and dad it would be nice if you have their support because it is their ears that will be on the business end of your practise.

The most important thing is to continue with your education and or career because the chances of making it as a singer are so small you have to consider what to do if you fail as a singer. Last year I made a business plan to get a loan for my sound system, It is very hard to get people to loan you thousands of pounds for any business connected to entertainment and I could not have done it had I not been reasonably well educated.

Now, learning to sing. This will take a long time, you need to practise, practise, practise and you need to get regular experience in front of an audience.

Singing lessons can be very good depending on the quality of the teacher if you can afford it. It can be very expensive.

Take up karaoke as a hobby and go as often as you can. Some experienced singers and musicians would scoff at this idea but it will give you immediate access to an audience. Learn the songs you are going to sing before you go out. The best way to do this is to sing karaoke on line. For about £6 per month (UK) you can have access to thousands of karaoke backing tracks (singtotheworld.co.uk) and this is the cheapest, easiest and quickest way to learn to sing to a moderate standard.

If you go to a lot of different karaoke venues you will get applause from people and this will encourage you. occasionally people might be rude and ignorant about your singing but you have to learn to cope with that. Most karaoke singers are amateurs but I have met several professional, ex professional and semi professional singers on the karaoke circuit. Some professional pub %26amp; club singers use karaoke venues to practice new material, these people would make ideal friends and aquantencies for someone like you because you can learn a lot from them.

When you have become competent at this level try open mike nights when you sing with a real musician, if you can find someone who will play when you sing. Singing with a piano player or a guitarist is harder than karaoke because you will need to learn the words and the phrasing of the song as well.

Consider becoming a musician yourself, you are still young enough to learn. This will help you immensly with your timeing and rhythm and eventually if you stick to it, it will mean you can go and perform any time anywhere.

Websites like youtube and expertvillage have free singing/ guitar/piano lessons etc.

The most important thing is to really enjoy what you do because then you are more likly to keep up the practise.

Van Morrison once said, ';Music is very spiritual, but the music industry is not'; If you follow your intended path you will meet a lot of really nice people. You will also meet a lot of real b.astards. Beware and toughen up.

Feel free to E mail me should you want further advise.
yeah i know how u feel me and other people i kno have the same dream i recommend recording ur voice on voice recording and uploading it to popular websites like myspace or youtube
Make a DEMO CD and then distribute it. Like to some of the local radio stations in your area and ask them if they will play some local talent. You can also submit your CD to record labels.

Oh, and don't forget about You Tube and Myspace, you need to try to get all the exposure you can to get people to recognize you and your talent.

    Hope that helps some.

    Good luck!
Map it out for yourself. What do you really think about that pop goddess center stage with all the dancers and musicians playing on three stadium screens. Who is this person? Who are all these other people? What about the people back stage and the PR people, record production people, traveling roadies. And the list goes on as the beat goes on. Think of the talent needed and the cost! Next stop the Twilight Zone with no stops ahead, but suddenly there is a sign up ahead the Twilight Zone. Buckle up, don't break a leg and enjoy the green room. The reality is there is a lot to learn and a lot to do and it is not cheep or easy.
i don't know much about it but i'd say practice practice practice and join a choir/ singing group
    Go for it girl!

Ignore the answer above from Keith, he doesn't know what he's talking. Nor is he any where near qualified to give advice on the subject, Kareoke.....are you joking.

He obviously didn't read your question, in which you clearly stated that you wanted to pursue a professional career in singing, so if someone doesn't have any sensable or relevant suggestions to offer, they shouldn't comment at all. Especially when aren't an authority on the subject.

Since you stated that you are interested in contacting a record label, you should look into doing a demo.

Keep your dreams alive, and don't listen to the wanna be's that only want to hold you down.
yes, make sure vocally your very good, record yourself and listen to it back, if ur crap then be realistic. get other people to listen to tapes of u singing but dont tell them its you to see what they really think. get singing lessons so that you can hold notes etc and know scales

then do your reasearch, ur best bet would be to find an agent as its more professional to go through an agent to a record company.

go for it, also is it really a record artist you want to be?

maybe try thearter etc aswell as this requires u to sing
